Order pickers

Order picking is the act of collecting goods, one or more at a time, to complete orders for shipping. It is a widespread practice in warehouses, e-commerce centers, and other distribution businesses.

Several truck types can support an order-picking operation, but order pickers are specially designed for the job. They come in several designs, each adapted for different picking solutions, picking heights, and picking cycles. Some models are designed for ground-level picking only and don't have lifting capabilities, while others can reach above 12 meters.

Order picking trucks come in several designs, each adapted for different picking operations. Before you consider buying an order picker, you need to know:

  • How high do the operators need to reach to pick the goods?
  • How big are the orders, and how many orders will be handled by the same operator at once?
  • How far is the typical travel distance between different picking points?

The height can be measured in meters or levels, and note that the term "first-level" can mean either floor level or one level up, depending on which country you're in. Order pickers are typically divided into low-, medium-, and high-level pickers with intervals of; up to 3 meters, 6 meters, and 12 meters.
